      California Postal Voters Have Impact

      APWU Sisters and Brothers:

I am reaching out to you regarding our efforts in the upcoming primary election in March and the general election in November 2020.  Also, we include the mechanics of the registration process because our families and friends should be encouraged to gain eligibility and vote in California elections.

Please check this website in the days and weeks ahead for voter guides and other information to enlighten our crucial expression of citizenship, your vote, and why we must take concrete actions to voice our prerogatives.

Voting in the 2020 elections provides the ability to elect public officials who express our values and offer the opportunity to improve the quality of life for ourselves, our families, and our communities.  The ballot box can be used to advocate on behalf of disadvantaged and marginalized people including Union members.

Two indisputable facts illustrate why California Postal Workers must vote in 2020:

      1. Since the California Congressional delegation has a 46 to 7 advantage in favor of Democrats, it is crucial that this political superiority be used to benefit working people generally and Postal Workers specifically.
      2. The California State Legislature in Sacramento has been sympathetic to issues important to Postal Workers such as consolidation.  To the extent we engage the State Legislature, we open a new arena where Postal Workers can contest the Postal Service on grounds unexplored by APWU.  In the interest of brevity, many other reasons compelling us to vote could have been included.

In order to vote on March 3, 2020, your registration must be postmarked or electronically submitted by February 17, 2020.  A person is eligible to vote in California if: they are a citizen of the United States and a California resident, and they will be at least 18 years old on Election Day.  If a person has not currently mentally incompetent to vote as determined by a Court, the person is eligible.  A person is not eligible to vote if they are in Federal or State prison, or on parole for the conviction of a felony.

Our participation in these elections cannot be overemphasized.  When we vote, our clout extends to Congress and the California Legislature.  We must fully exercise our power to benefit our families and communities.

Phillip M. Warlick, California APWU Legislative Director

Greetings Local, State and National Officers,

I am excited to announce that beginning Friday, October 4th at noon, we will be able to accept membership applications (1187s) online from current APWU Bargaining Unit employees!

Starting tomorrow (Friday), the "Join APWU" option on the home page of our website will allow a non-member to complete the entire process from their phone or computer.

Once the 1187 is submitted, a confirmation email containing the completed 1187 will be emailed to both the new member, as well as, the Organization Department. In addition, the Department will be mailing Local and State Organizations a copy of the 1187.

Form 1187s received through the online procedure will automatically be entered into our system, thereby expediting their processing time.

A guide is available for review/download to aide you in assisting others in the "join online" process.
